What Does "More Territory" Look Like for You?

When most men hear Jabez pray, "Enlarge my territory," our minds naturally think bigger.

A bigger business. A promotion. Greater influence. More financial success. We tell ourselves it's so we can do more for God - and often that's partly true. But if we're honest, there's usually another motive lurking beneath the surface. We also want to accomplish more...and become more.

If I'm honest, that's how I used to think. I did want God to expand my influence so I could accomplish more for Him. There was a sincere desire to serve Christ, but mixed in with it was another desire I didn't fully recognize at the time - the desire to become “somebody.”

God has spent years teaching me that His greatest work isn't expanding my platform. It's expanding my heart.

That's what makes Jabez's prayer so powerful.

He wasn't asking God to enlarge his kingdom. He was asking God to enlarge God's Kingdom through his life. There's a profound difference.

God has uniquely gifted every one of us, so our "territory" won't all look the same. But every opportunity He gives us has the same purpose—to make Christ known and expand His Kingdom.

Before Jabez ever prayed, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm..." (1 Chronicles 4:10, NIV), Scripture tells us he was "more honorable than his brothers." He refused to let the name others gave him—Pain—define the man he would become.

Many of us are still carrying labels that don't belong to us. Failure. Regret. Not enough. Those labels keep us from stepping into the opportunities God has already prepared for us.

This week, ask God two simple questions:

·       "Lord, where do You want to use me more?"

·       "What old label do I need to leave behind so I can walk through that door?"

Jabez prayed for enlarged territory. Paul reminds us why.

For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

You are God's handiwork—His masterpiece. He intentionally designed you, gifted you, and placed you exactly where you are for a purpose. He has already prepared opportunities that only you can fulfill for His Kingdom.

The question isn't whether God has prepared those opportunities.

The question is whether you're praying boldly enough to see them... and are courageous enough to embrace them.
